Explore the hidden history of a secret twentieth-century feminist debate club. This limited edition publication follows artist Jessica Campbell's research and solo exhibition, Heterodoxy, with photography of the gallery installation and archival imagery related to the club’s history.
Enclosed in a hand-printed silkscreened case fabricated in the FWM Studio, the portfolio features twenty Risograph-printed portraits by Campbell and a booklet that explores her research and artistic response.
First produced as gouache collages for the exhibition, Campbell’s set of Risograph portraits of Heterodoxy members, who playfully called themselves Heterodites, includes founder Marie Jenney Howe, Harlem Renaissance activist Grace Nail Johnson, political cartoonist Lou Rogers, and physician Sara Josephine Baker, among others. On the verso of each portrait, Campbell includes brief biographical narratives about each historical figure.
